Abstract
The following article will discuss the increase in the under-identification of special education students from culturally and linguistically diverse communities. A model is recommended that incorporates the use of community health workers, the skills and knowledge of culturally responsive practices and developing trusted relationships in assisting members from diverse communities to be informed about special education and special education services. Suggestions for training and teacher education programs are discussed.
