Abstract
English Education students who attended a National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) conference seemed to develop increased confidence and professional identity through the experience of traveling to and attending a national conference. Including conference attendance in the methods class may be one way to address the problem of early-career attrition by encouraging pre-service teachers to establish a network of relationships and resources that extend beyond the college classroom.
