Abstract
The authors address the role institutions of higher education play in building teacher resilience among pre-service teachers. Within teacher preparation programs, there are opportunities for pre-service teachers to learn skills and strategies that build teacher resiliency. Embedding opportunities in coursework and field experiences, the institution of higher education can scaffold the skills and strategies that promote self-advocacy, leading to teacher resiliency. Additionally, the authors discuss how ongoing professional development and effective mentoring can contribute to teacher retention.
