Abstract
Education reform emphasizes societal needs, ideals, and citizen responsibilities. The Paideia model emphasizes education that is equal in quality and quantity through a robust and comprehensive education and developing the skills of self-governance, accountability, and democracy. The model incorporates underlying themes which include progressive education, social function, and social awareness. While the Paideia program does not communicate overt requirements of the incorporation of social concepts and progressive thought into the curriculum specifically, through qualitative coding process and programmatic review, we have determined that the Paideia model promotes a progressive, forward-thinking curriculum aimed at enhancing all students’ understanding of their individual role within the social world. This notion supports the idea that within the program’s realm of “equality” (in terms of all individuals without some level of disability or impairment) should be able to access the same level and quality of education, regardless of barriers associated with socioeconomic status, or other limitations.
