Abstract

Action research around teacher clarity informed the development of a digital student check-in tool. Data collected allows teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators to assess lesson impact for student clarity of learning targets, how they are doing in their learning, what they need more of for deeper learning, and how they feel about their learning. Check-in data from students provide actionable feedback on how learners receive lessons, informing adjustments in planning and practice to amplify teacher impact. World-renowned researcher, Professor John Hattie, stated this is the "best classroom data I have ever seen". In this study, fall baseline data from 2.2K student check-ins, which teachers reflected upon to make shifts to improve pedagogical practices and implement specific professional development.
