Abstract

The ever-broadening nature of the field of SLP means that Master-level educational programs must become more effective and efficient. We recently developed and implemented an SLP Master program at MUSC that is built on best practices in higher education and clinical training programs of related fields. We have incorporated school, outpatient, and medical-focused content, in our competency-based curriculum. We use a knowledge and skills checkoff method with pass/no pass/high pass grading to focus the students and faculty on the critical content during our active classes. Lastly, we have linked clinical experiences with the didactic coursework and have a course each semester focused on maximizing clinical education and supporting clinical educators.
