Abstract/Description
Pyridyl derivatives of (nitro)(pyridyl)tetraphenylporphinatocobalt(III), (py)CoTPP(N02), have been synthesized and characterized by 1H NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. X-ray crystal structures of the parent compound, (py)CoTPP(N02), and of the 3,5-dichloropyridyl derivatives have been solved. Trends in the electronic character of the pyridyl ligands, as determined by the Hammett function, (σ) and the nitro NO bond strength have been evaluated through measurements of NO vibrational frequencies and NO bond lengths from the X-ray structures. Relationships of these results to oxo-transfer kinetics will be explored later by rapid kinetics experiments and electrochemistry.
