Abstract/Description
The Woman in White: Uncensored is an effort to encourage the re-examination of Victorian drama. One part of the project consists of re-writing a Victorian play (I have chosen Wilkie Collins' The Woman in White) to be truer to its parent novel. The second part is a research paper relating all the information I found regarding censorship, audience preference, the popularity of melodrama, and any other reasons there were for novels being bowdlerized (or altered) when adapted for the stage.
