Presentation Abstract
Nitrogen and phosphorus are chemical elements that are essential components in a natural freshwater ecosystem. However, when these substances are found in large quantities it can become an issue and be a hinderance to the development of the ecosystem. This study is focused on the samples taken from Crabtree Swamp in Conway, South Carolina from January 31, 2008 to December 17, 2020. In this research 227 total nitrogen samples and 224 total phosphorus samples collected by the Alkaline Persulfate Oxidation method. The average observed total nitrogen was 0.638 mg/L and the average total Phosphorus was 0.062 mg/L. The nitrogen levels are observed to be higher when compared to the SC DHEC criteria of 0.1 mg/L. This model can be used to determine how the nitrogen and phosphorus levels compare to surrounding water sources.
