Description

Joseph Fitsanakis, Ph.D., was awarded the 2024 HTC Distinguished Teacher-Scholar Lecturer Award. Fitsanakis, professor of intelligence and security studies, director of the Intelligence Operations Command Center, and assistant director of the Center for Applied Intelligence in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, delivered a lecture titled “Do Democracies Need Spies? Practicing Intelligence in a Free Society.” The lecture encompassed his broad knowledge of intelligence collection, information security, cyber security, and sub-state political violence.

The award, made possible through a generous donation from the Horry Telephone Cooperative, is presented to a Coastal Carolina University faculty member who demonstrates outstanding teaching and brings about student learning through scholarship and mentoring.
