Description

A wide shot of the former residence of Phillip Washington capturing the front door and bushes. Washington was the founder of the freedman community of Sandy Island, and he was a former driver on Pipe Down plantation on Sandy Island. He purchased this house on Front Street in Georgetown after 1862 and before purchasing his first plots of land on Sandy Island in 1880.
