Abstract

A local political candidate commented that we need to return to Constitutional government, including restoring freedom, placing Christianity and public prayer at the center of the public schools, and repudiating other religions (including by implication manifestations of Christianity with which he did not agree). Obviously this individual did not understand a thing about the Constitution. Although he did not win the election, he had a strong following of enthusiastic supporters. This chauvinistic arrogance and ignorance of our basic principles is a problem not to be taken lightly in contemporary America...
